The successful candidate will be embedded in a collaborative, multi-cultural environment alongside experienced lawyers and corporate advisers, with clear pathways for career progression and professional development.

Role Overview

Position: Senior Associate
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking all activities typical of a senior legal adviser, including drafting of contracts, memorandum of advice, legal opinions and other legal instruments, as well as structuring and negotiating transactions;
  • Managing and supervising the provision of advice on complex legal and, with the input from tax advisors, tax matters;
  • Supervising and managing client matters;
  • Reporting to and taking instructions from the Partners of the Firm;
  • Drafting and delivering fee proposals, reviewing and revising invoices, and assisting in the collection of outstanding invoices;
  • Assisting with and participating in the Firm’s business development and marketing efforts, including client pitches, attending and speaking at seminars, researching and writing articles and attending business related functions;
  • Peer reviewing the work of the other advisers, analyzing progress reports, following up with advisers on matter plans that require modification or communication with clients and providing constructive feedback as necessary; and
  • Participating in knowledge management, professional development and Firm administrative activities as requested.

Candidate Requirements

  • Candidate must possess a Law degree (LL.B) from a reputable school with strong academic track record, and be admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaysia.
  • Minimum 5 years PQE as a lawyer in a reputable law firm.
  • International law firm background and/or international experience preferred.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of the laws and practices.
  • Strong analytical and technical ability and be able to draw on practical experience to deliver practical solutions.
  • Good legal writing and drafting skills.
  • Strong communicator with good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong team building skills.
  • Fluent in written and spoken Bahasa Malaysia and English; proficiency in Mandarin will be added as advantage.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented with a passion for innovation and developing new ways of supporting client-facing lawyers in the firm.
  • Able to handle matters independently and work under pressure.
  • Organised and resourceful.
  • Highest standards of professional ethics, integrity and judgment.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office suite.
  • Written assessment and references will be required.
